It’s great to hear your hopes for the future. Cory – I like it that you have a few ideas for jobs and that you will get some tutoring support if you need it – that’s very wise and practical. Miranda – All the best with your political ambitions, it would be fantastic for Australia to have an Aboriginal PM. Lots of children would be great too! Sarah – Your plans are very balanced and calm with part time work, one child and a relaxed family. I wish we could all live in balance like this! Lillian, your plans are also very relaxed and the community would gain from your Scouts volunteering.

Your wishes for the 21st century are generous and outward looking. Your group obviously cares deeply about the environment and broader world issues.

I’m so glad that you had fun imagining your future families and choosing favourite names. I think the names you have chosen are great! I have met with some of my old school friends and it is surprising that many of them did end up having the sort of families they always wanted!

Andy – good luck with a future in football, Sarah I hope you gain entry into the armed forces. Andrew and May – all the best for your futures – you will need to keep working very hard at school to become a doctor or laywer!! Taniesha – both the jobs you want to do involve a good scientific knowledge. Jasmine – all the best with hairdressing and San Win, one day I might drive a car designed by you!

Your wishes for the 21st century are all about justice and peace and I love it that you believe that peace starts with you.

What a creative group you are – this certainly shows in the range of occupations you have listed and in your wishes for the 21st century! I notice that many of the jobs you have listed are helping professions – so I believe that you are also a kind and cooperative bunch as well!!

Your list of wishes has two main threads that I really liked. One is related to fairness and justice – no pollution, everything is free, no politics, no more weapons, no starvation or poverty. The other thread is one connected with new technologies – a trip to Mars, shoes that stay clean, hover vehicles and new types of weapons.

Miranda has joined Cory, Lillian and Sarah for this Rap Point 4.

Cory “I want a good life and I will be a responsible parent with a happy family. I’d like to be a chef or a mechanic, maybe to work in the mines. To get there I’ll work hard for HSC and try to get some tutoring or other support.”

Miranda “I will be a loving parent with a happy family of lots of children because I am an only child. I want to get into parliament or be an artist. I’d like to be the first Aboriginal Prime Minister! So I’ll have to work hard at school and finish Year 12.”

Sarah “I want a relaxed, calm and helpful family with one child, a girl. I want to be a responsible parent but not too over-protective. I’d like a well-paid job for two days a week and one day a week as a day-care teacher, so I’ll have to go to university or TAFE.”

Lillian “I’d like to have a caring and relaxed family, with one girl, and to be a responsible parent but not too strict. I’d like to be an Art teacher and also a Scout Leader after hours.”

And what they would like for the 21st Century includes:
• Less pollution, “greener” cars and solar houses
• Water conservation
• Friendlier communities
• No wars and more world peace
• No drugs and less alcohol
• Better health care
• Safety for all children
• National facilities for organ donors
• More relief for Third World countries
• Lower mortgages.

We had a lot of fun imagining our lives as adults. Most of us want kids; the popular number is two. Some of the names we like are -

We decided that we might meet in 20 years time and see if we have changed our minds.

Some of the jobs we would like to do are -

Andy – wants to be a football player.
Sarah – would like to join the Army, Air Force or Navy.

Peace – we know that peace starts with us and we are working on making our classroom a peaceful place to be free of negative behaviour and racism.

A safer world for children.
A clean world free of pollution.

An animal friendly place.

In the future 7RED3 would like to live in a world that has:

What a variety of careers! It will be interesting when you have a school reunion in later years to see if you all followed those paths, or you chose a different one.

I am very impressed with your hopes for the 21st Century. I sometimes wonder what the world will be like for my grandchildren and those generations who follow. I know now that with young people like you who care so much about the world and its people, that it will be a good place.

I know too that because many of you care for the environment, my great grandchildren will still have their traditional foods, medicines and sacred Country. They won’t just be stories told by the wise ones, or pictures in a book. To each one of you, I say thank you for that, because you are helping to keep my culture alive.

Wow – you have a great variety of jobs that you would like to do as adults! I can see a number of emerging sports people as well as people who are into politics, design and acting. I agree with you – if I can’t be rich and famous, I would definitely like to be happy. It is interesting that some of you want to help out in the community – teaching, cooking and looking after children are all jobs in the service sector. Builders and landscapers also contribute a great deal to shaping our communities.

Thanks to all of you for your great wishes for the 21st century! Charlotte – You want everyone’s basic needs to be met and no-one to go hungry. Boston, Lauren, Louise, Maddi and Jake – you wish for a world where relationships are strong, healthy and free of conflict. Ross, you care about the country and Paul, you care about the environment, while Jacob cares about people’s health. Adam, so many people would join with you in wishing for a world free of crime!

We have decided we want to be many different things when we grow up. We wanted to be, among other things: actors, cricketers, soccer stars, rugby league stars, Olympic athletes, fashion designers, politicians and many more.

We then read Daphne and Maureen’s stories in Strong Identity, proud future. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of being rich and famous and decided that if we weren’t going to be rich or famous, we’d like overall to be happy. To be happy, we decided that we’d like to have careers that involved: teaching, landscaping, firefighting, building, cooking and looking after children.

We hope many things for the world of the 21st century:

Your group has some fascinating interests and skills – including deep sea fishing and hip hop! Good on you for staying fit with the rugby league, netball and walking. You ahev a very wide range of jobs for the future and I can see that this is sometimes because the mentors in your lives have inspired you in these directions! If you plan to be a welder, designer, upholsterer or footballer, it really helps if you already know someone in the trade!

I loved your wishes for the 21st Century. It would be great world if we had no hobos on the street, no judgement from people, no crime and low priced housing. Sounds like a recipe for a peaceful and fair world!
